Employee Spotlight: Chad Cohen

While staying abreast of constantly evolving technology may be a struggle for some, it’s a challenge that gets Chad Cohen up in the morning. Along with personal dedication and enthusiasm, Chad brings over five years of experience with recruiting and placing technology professionals in infrastructure, development, and professional services positions to his role. We recently caught up with him to discuss the best advice he’s ever received, workplace integrity and why he loves his job. Meet Chad Cohen, Technical Recruiting Lead for Thompson Technologies. 

Q:  What do you feel are the most important skills for identifying top talent for clients? 

A: It’s important to really get to know the client, their culture, their needs and their overall objectives. Some clients are primarily interested in a candidate who can meet their technical needs. In other cases, clients are impressed by a candidate who is really sharp, has a great personality, a solid education, or a combination of those factors. 

Granted, the technical skills are the first thing we target, but if we find someone with the ability to positively impact the company in any manner, we will find a way to place that candidate somewhere. 

Q: What is your personal philosophy or business approach and how does it contribute to your success in identifying best-fit candidates for clients?  

A: With the near-daily emergence of new technology, it’s absolutely necessary to stay abreast of industry and marketplace trends. This plays a key part in interacting with clients and consultants alike. Whether attending user groups, blogs, industry magazines, or by simply speaking to clients about who they plan to hire in the future, I make being informed a top priority. 

Q: What is the number-one piece of career advice you have received? 

A: The best advice I have ever received is that no matter where you are in the organization, you have the ability to impact others — whether it’s clients, candidates, internal employees, or anyone else. Some roles in the organization have more impact than others, but if you truly believe in the goals of the company and you are willing to put in the effort, you will find opportunity arising.  

Q: How does Thompson Technologies distinguish itself from other staffing firms?  

A: I believe that we have a solid name in the industry because of our commitment to our clients, candidates and employees. A big part of our culture is based on integrity and doing what’s right for all parties involved. Additionally, we have a solid team with tenured employees who understand and enjoy impacting the lives of others for the better.   

Q: What do you love about your job?   

A: I love that everyday is something new. The technologies are constantly evolving and I get the opportunity to become knowledgeable in a variety of skill sets. I also have the chance to help someone change their life for the better by helping them with a new career opportunity.

Q: What are your favorite activities when you are not working? 

A: I enjoy spending time with my family at the pool, playing golf and soccer, and spending time with friends.
