Thompson Technologies: Employee Profile – Laura Carlino

As Consultant Services Manager with Thompson Technologies in Atlanta for more than five years, Laura Carlino manages relationships with Thompson IT consultants, checking in, supporting and rewarding their hard work. Laura’s enthusiasm also shines in her role as event planner extraordinaire and community outreach coordinator.

Q:  How does your role support the organization’s overall business philosophy?

A:  As an advocate dedicated to the success of Thompson consultants, my role demonstrates Thompson’s commitment to quality and unwavering integrity. We want our IT consultants to feel appreciated.

Q:  What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

A:  Working with, helping and managing people!  Serving our clients and consultants with the utmost professionalism and timeliness is essential.  Reward to me happens when a consultant takes the time to send us an email saying he or she appreciates what we do.

Q:  What has been your proudest moment as the coordinator of Thompson community outreach events?

A:  I was so proud of our team last year when we adopted a single mom in the Atlanta area with four kids for the holidays. When I appealed to our internal staff and IT consultants for gifts or donations, the response was tremendous! The mom was overwhelmed and her children even sent us homemade thank-you cards.

Q:  What was one of your favorite projects to work on in the last year or two?

A:  I’d have to say our summer event at Lake Lanier in 2010. It was our first picnic with more than 400 attendees. Between the water park, food, games for the kids, pontoon boat ride, raffle drawing, prizes –even having a TV outside for the World Cup – it was incredible!

Q:  How does the company’s community involvement affect the culture of Thompson and its clients?

A:  It shows that a company can be a catalyst for positive change. That fosters team spirit, so our team members have a personal commitment to these outreach programs in Atlanta and beyond. And clients have jumped on board to partner with us, making the impact even greater.

Q:  In the highly competitive IT staffing industry, how does your work support recruitment and build relationships with clients?

A:  Knowing that I am dedicated to supporting our consultants gives clients confidence in Thompson Technologies. When they see me on site, bringing gifts and taking consultants to lunch, it shows that we actually do what we say we’ll do.  Our IT recruiting benefits too – we get referrals because IT consultants know we keep our promises.

Q:  What is one of the most unexpected ways technology can have an impact on the community?

A:  Technology can help communities do more and serve more people.  It helps them plan and implement their programs with faster access to information and greater efficiency.  In turn, this lets community leaders focus on the greater mission rather than get bogged down in tasks.
